Eat to the Beat: Riesling Gets Rad

by Kathleen Willcox

Shows benefitting inarguably just causes (the oil spill), but produced by strange partnerships from every philosophical branch known to man and woman (Aretha Franklin and Condoleezza Rice?) are expected in the world of concert promotion. Like Pepsi underwriting indie Etsy artist types, it seems Orwellian, hypocritical, cynical, even debased; but yet it’s so darn fruitful!

But somehow, when the discordant elements come together, sweet, sweet music is born. The latest Mutt n’ Jeff partnership isn’t evil or aggressively odd (actually, quite the opposite); it’s just kind of inspired.

Like Peanut Butter & Co.’s Dark Chocolate Dreams, the product seems so naturally complimentary, so forehead-smackingly obvious, one wonders why no one came up with this shizz before.

Behold the Summer Riesling Concert Series! On July 14, the Knitting Factory and Terroir will unleash four bands (Himalaya, Nouvellas, Black Hollies and Lights On) and four glasses of gorgeous Riesling on your primed palates for the bargain basement price of $30. Unlike so many disturbing moments of money-grubbing synchronicity, this one won’t leave you with a bad taste in your mouth.

Tickets available at the Knitting Factory or at East Village foodie/wine havens Hearth and Terroir.
