Musicians are increasingly taking control of their careers, but this is a new one for the digital age. Wiley, a British hip-hop producer and MC often dubbed the “king of grime” fired his manager yesterday and released 11 zip files of new music. The MC also left former label, Island Records, back in March.
The announcement came via Twitter, something Wiley has also had some beef with. The tracks are available for download here, with possibly moreĀ forthcoming.
Check out our interviews with international grime representatives like Dizzee Rascal (a former friend of Wiley’s) and Lady Sov. If you need an intro, Sway Dasafo breaks down the politics of the genre.
