Eat to the Beat: The Hood Internet’s Taco Blends

by Kathleen Willcox

Like the devil and God, everyone seems to have a different name for tacos: Rich people may call them blinis, foodiots at Mandarin Chinese restaurants may refer to them as pancakes and my mom claims they’re frybread, but really? They’re all tacos.

And there’s room enough in the world (and my stomach) for every variety, size and hue, though tacos that have recently met and fallen in love with a large vat of hot oil will always get my chops smacking first.

Apparently, Steve and Aaron from The Hood Internet share my all-consuming love for tacos, and have taken it an OCD step further. Behold their Tumblr project, Album Tacos.

It’s devoted exclusively to mashing up classic album covers and classic tacos, like Crosby, Stills & Nash’s seminal Live It Up. Suddenly, the cover is taken over by four massive, manly, mouth watering double-decker tacos al carbon, replacing the rather paltry and flaccid-looking hot dogs.

Sonic Youth’s Goo now showcases big honkin’ in yo’ face taco sudados in place of a–in retrospect–rather effete and hapless-looking ciggie.

Tacos. Insta-hangover cures, PMS-squashers, the main reason my brain does not require artificial chemical enhancement and now, classic album improvers. Is there nothing tacos can’t do?
