Jamie Oliver–he of “The Naked Chef” and the surprisingly successful attempt to wean Los Angelenos from their flavored milk–has launched a music and food shindig in the U.K. dubbed The Big Feastival.
Set for July 1-3 in London, festival-goers will be able to graze at a ridiculously enticing pupu platter of gourmet food, picked by Thomasina Meiers, Giorgio Locatelli, Peter Gordon and Jonathan Downey. Norman Jay is set to curate the Good Times Bandstand, and the Charlatans, New Young Pony Club, Mystery Jets and Kurran and the Wolf Notes will be tooting their horns.
Because this is Jamie Oliver we’re dealing with, the three-day beer and brats barf-o-rama will benefit the Prince’s Trust and the Jamie Oliver Foundation, which both help disadvantaged kids.
Check out Norman Jay’s fascinating insight into the difference between American and British approaches to counter-culture; why our streets ended up vibrating with bebop and jazz, while across the pond, punk and jungle quaked.
